The Major Reasons that Cause High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) in People with Diabetes

There are three kinds of high blood pressure in diabetics which include diabetic nephropathy hypertension, diabetic hypertension without kidney disease and combination of diabetic hypertension and autonomic neuropathy. Do you know the major reasons that cause high blood pressure in Diabetics?

High blood glucose. Evidence shows that blood pressure rises with the increasing blood glucose levels in people with Type 2 Diabetes. High levels of blood glucose can directly damage endothelial cells of blood vessels. What’s more, elevated postmeal blood glucose is more dangerous than impaired fasting glucose and women have greater risks than men.

Diabetic Nephropathy. Patients with Diabetic Nephropathy present widely glomerulosclerosis. The decreasing blood flow volume stimulates secretion of renin which leads to elevated angiotensin levels and enhanced smpathovagal, thus peripheric vasoconstriction appears and vscular peripheral resistance increases. As a result, blood pressure rises.

Disorders of galactose metabolism in the early stage of high blood pressure. Disorders of galactose metabolism include increasing levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein, blood glucose and insulin. People who are overweight with insulin resistance also have incidence of Diabetes.

Genetic factor. Both of Diabetes and high blood pressure belong to polygenic recessive hereditary diseases. Type 2 Diabetes has higher hereditary rate than Type 1 Diabetes. Patients of high blood pressure have obvious characteristic of family aggregation. This characteristic is more important than environmental factor.

As we all know, Diabetes can lead to severe complications including coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy which have close relation with high blood pressure. If you are clear with the major causes of high blood pressure in diabetics, you should take measures immediately to manage your own condition and prevent more serious deterioration.
