Prevention of Kidney Disease for Diabetics

1. Adjust to a proper diet for Diabetic kidney disease

Diabetics with kidney disease should take low-salt diet to relieve swelling and high blood pressure. Patients with renal function disorder should control the quantity of protein intake, which is not only beneficial for renal function disorder, but also can reduce excretion of urine protein. Quantity of protein intake should be less than 30~40g every day. High-quality protein is more suitable for patients with diabetic kidney disease, such as milk, eggs and meat etc.

2. Control glucose metabolism disorder effectively

Capillary basement membrane can be affected because of Glucose metabolism disorder, causing diabetic kidney disease. Therefore active control of high blood sugar is the premise of the prevention of diabetic kidney disease.

3. Prevent and treat urinary tract infections actively

For diabetics, the resistance to infections decreases, combined with pyelonephritis, thus aggravating the damage to kidneys. In clinic, it is not obvious only with mild urinary discomfort and backache. Urinary tract infections can be diagnosed by urine bacterial culture and treated with antibiotic.

4. Control blood pressure

Many diabetics have high blood pressure which can aggravate the kidney damage. In turn, kidney disease can make high blood pressure hard to control. No matter what the reasons for high blood pressure are, patients should control high blood pressure, which is essential for delaying the decline rate of glomerular filtration rate (GFR), reducing the excretion of urine protein.

5. Avoid nephrotoxic drugs and iodine contrast agent

Patients should avoid drugs which are harmful to kidneys, such as gentamicin, streptomycin and amikacin. Besides, iodine contrast agent also can aggravate the damage to kidneys. Patients should avoid intraveneous pyelography (IVP).

6. Improve renal microvascular lesions

The key to the prevention of kidney disease in diabetics is to diagnose and treat early. Hope what mentioned above is helpful. If you want to know more about Diabetes or diabetic kidney disease, you can consult us or send email. We will do our best to help you.
